Auto detailing marketing

Auto detailing marketing: 10 reasons your Google Maps profile is costing you bookings

People search car detailing near me, ceramic coating or mobile detailing and pick from the three businesses on the map. Whether you run a shop or a van, auto detailing marketing and mobile detailing marketing both start with that listing. Here is what we find on detailing business Google Maps profiles, and what we do about each.

  • One business of each type per area
  • No contract
  • Nothing changes without your approval

10 auto detailing marketing mistakes on Google Maps, and what we do about each

  1. Your profile is set up as a shop when you are mobile, or the other way around.

Google treats a storefront and a service area business differently. A mobile detailer who shows a home address can be told to hide it, and a shop that hides its address loses the walk in and drop off customers searching close by. Some detailers do both, and Google allows a shop address plus a service area when customers really do come to you.

What we do: we look at how you actually work, set the profile up as a storefront, a service area business or both, and confirm the change on the live map.

How service area businesses work on Google
  2. Your primary category is car wash.

Car wash and car detailing are different searches. A detailer filed under car wash can show up for quick wash searches and miss people looking for interior detailing, paint correction or ceramic coating, which are the higher dollar jobs.

What we do: we compare your categories with the detailers that win your map, set a detailing category as primary and add related categories only where you really do that work, after you approve.

  3. Your services list does not name your packages.

Each service is its own search. Detailing buyers look for interior detailing, full detail, paint correction, ceramic coating, headlight restoration, odor removal and boat or RV detailing. In mobile detailing marketing, a services list that just says detailing leaves most of that on the table.

What we do: we build a clean services list from the packages you actually sell, with a short plain line for each, and leave off the work you do not want calls for.

  4. Your photos do not show the difference you make.

Detailing sells on before and after photos: a stained seat cleaned up, swirl marks gone under shop lights, water beading on a fresh coating. A profile with stock car photos or only your logo gives a buyer no reason to pick you over the next listing.

What we do: we publish one post a week with up to three photos from your own jobs, written for the towns you want, and approved by you before it goes live.

  5. Your mobile service area is too big or too vague.

Mobile detailers often list a whole metro or a 50 mile radius. That tells Google nothing about the towns where your best customers live, and it can bring requests from places where the drive eats the profit on the job.

What we do: we build a list of up to 20 towns you want bookings from, you approve it, and we check that all of them show on your live profile.

  6. You miss calls while your hands are on a car.

Most detailers work alone or with a small crew, and the phone rings while you are polishing or vacuuming. A buyer who gets voicemail on a weekend often calls the next detailer on the map.

What we do: we can set up an AI receptionist that answers when you cannot, takes the vehicle, the package and the address or drop off time, and sends you the details so you can book the job.

  7. Your hours do not match how you book.

Many detailers work by appointment, early mornings or weekends. Hours that say closed on Saturday, or a profile with no hours at all, can make you look closed exactly when people are searching.

What we do: we set hours that match when you take calls and bookings, add special hours for holidays and add your booking link so customers can book without a call.

  8. You are counting on reviews alone.

Reviews matter in detailing, but they do not win the map by themselves. In our scans across trades, a business with more than 170 five star reviews sat out of the top 3 while a competitor with 1 review reached it.

What we do: we fix the setup first, then help you build a simple habit of asking every happy customer for a review, such as a text with your review link when you hand back the keys.

  9. Reviews go unanswered.

Detailing reviews often mention a specific car or a specific problem, like dog hair or a spilled drink. A reply that thanks the customer and names the work shows the next buyer that you pay attention, and a calm reply to a complaint can keep a bad review from costing you jobs.

What we do: we draft a reply to every new review in your voice and post it only after you approve it.

  10. Nobody checks the map or the profile.

Most detailers do not know where they show up a few miles from home or the shop, and Google or the public can suggest edits that go live without notice. A changed phone number or a wrong pin can cost bookings for weeks.

What we do: we run a weekly profile check that catches unwanted changes and a 49 point map scan of your service area every month, showing green where you are in the top 3 and red where you are not.

Proof

What we found on real Google profiles

We sign mutual NDAs with our clients, so we describe the work instead of naming the business.

In our scans of 532 local businesses, 32% did not reach the top 3 at any of 49 points and the median business reached it at just 1 of 49.
A pressure washing company in Central Texas. We removed a house cleaning category for work it does not do, added an emergency spill cleanup service and rewrote a description that had been copied from another service. Every change was applied after the owner approved it in writing.
An appliance repair and HVAC company in Utah with more than 250 reviews at 5.0 ranked only 10th at its own address. We traced it to a shared coworking address, switched it to a service area business with 20 towns and advised against opening a second profile that could risk a suspension.
A house cleaning company in Southern California with more than 170 reviews at 5.0. Our scan found it at none of 49 points, while a competitor with 1 review reached the top 3 at 5. Great reviews could not make up for the profile setup.
A locksmith in Southern California had no Google profile, so it appeared at 0 of 49 points. We coached the owner through Google's video verification, and a rescan on the same grid found it at 30 of 49 points and in the top 3 at 10.
A carpet cleaning company in central Mississippi. Our scan found its listing placed by Google in Kentucky, about 400 miles away. It reached the top 3 at none of 49 points.

Every business and market is different. We do not promise rankings. We show you the same map every month so you can see what changed.
