What we found on real fence company profiles

A fence and deck company in Missouri did not appear on the map at all because its profile was filed under the category consultant.
A fence contractor in the Kansas City area had an active website and social pages but no presence on Google Maps among 129 competitors.
A fence and barn builder in Central Texas showed up at 5 of 49 points and never in the top 3. A competitor with 14 reviews reached the top 3 at 8.
A fence and gate company in Arizona led its market for gates, but held 0% of the top spots for security screen doors. A competitor with 15 reviews reached the top 3 at 39 of 49 points there.

The problems we see most

  • A primary category that does not match the main service. For fence companies we often see an unrelated main category such as consultant.
  • A pin in the wrong place, or a service area that does not match where the trucks go
  • Listings that were never claimed, or duplicate listings splitting the reviews
  • Empty services lists and descriptions that do not name the real towns
  • Lots of reviews on a profile whose setup is wrong, so the reviews cannot carry it

What we fix first

  1. We run a 49 point scan of the service area before we change anything.
  2. We check the primary category, services and description against the fence companies that win the map, and fix them after the owner approves.
  3. We check the pin or service area, so the profile ranks from the right place.
  4. We draft replies to every new review and publish one post a week with up to three photos, approved by the owner.
  5. We rescan the same 49 points every month, so the owner sees what moved.

How we measured

Each scan is a 7 by 7 grid of 49 points across the business's service area, searching its main keyword. A point counts as a win when the business is in the top 3 map results there. These are businesses we looked at as possible clients between September 8 and October 30, 2026, not a random sample. Client work is described without names because of mutual NDAs.

Common questions

Why do fence companies with lots of reviews miss the Google map?

Reviews help, but Google also weighs how well the profile matches the search and how close the business is to the searcher. A wrong category, a misplaced pin or an empty services list can keep a well reviewed profile out of the top 3.

What is the most common Google Maps problem for fence companies?

In our scans it is the setup: an unrelated main category such as consultant, a pin or service area that does not match the work, and listings that were never claimed.

How do you scan a profile?

We search the business's main keyword from 49 points spread across its service area and record where it shows up at each point. Green means top 3, red means not. We rescan the same points every month for clients.

Can you show client names and numbers?

Our client work is covered by mutual NDAs, so we describe it without names. The scan numbers on this page come from businesses we looked at as possible clients.
