What we found on real dumpster rental profiles

A recycling and roll off dumpster company in Hawaii did not appear at any of 49 points for dumpster rental, not even near its own yard. Google read it as a scrap yard, while a listing with no reviews reached the top 3 at 9.
A dumpster and disposal company in Wisconsin had its listing typed as a moving company. It reached the top 3 at 3 of 49 points while a competitor with 13 reviews reached it at 20.
A roll off dumpster company in Houston reached the top 3 at none of 49 points. The map was won by thin dumpster only listings with 1 to 3 reviews.
A dumpster rental company in the Sacramento area led with a waste management category and never reached the top 3, while listings with a single review did at 6 points.

The problems we see most

  • A primary category that does not match the main service. For dumpster rental companies we often see a scrap yard, moving company or waste management category instead of dumpster rental.
  • A pin in the wrong place, or a service area that does not match where the trucks go
  • Listings that were never claimed, or duplicate listings splitting the reviews
  • Empty services lists and descriptions that do not name the real towns
  • Lots of reviews on a profile whose setup is wrong, so the reviews cannot carry it

What we fix first

  1. We run a 49 point scan of the service area before we change anything.
  2. We check the primary category, services and description against the dumpster rental companies that win the map, and fix them after the owner approves.
  3. We check the pin or service area, so the profile ranks from the right place.
  4. We draft replies to every new review and publish one post a week with up to three photos, approved by the owner.
  5. We rescan the same 49 points every month, so the owner sees what moved.

How we measured

Each scan is a 7 by 7 grid of 49 points across the business's service area, searching its main keyword. A point counts as a win when the business is in the top 3 map results there. These are businesses we looked at as possible clients between September 8 and October 30, 2026, not a random sample. Client work is described without names because of mutual NDAs.

Common questions

Why do dumpster rental companies with lots of reviews miss the Google map?

Reviews help, but Google also weighs how well the profile matches the search and how close the business is to the searcher. A wrong category, a misplaced pin or an empty services list can keep a well reviewed profile out of the top 3.

What is the most common Google Maps problem for dumpster rental companies?

In our scans it is the setup: a scrap yard, moving company or waste management category instead of dumpster rental, a pin or service area that does not match the work, and listings that were never claimed.

How do you scan a profile?

We search the business's main keyword from 49 points spread across its service area and record where it shows up at each point. Green means top 3, red means not. We rescan the same points every month for clients.

Can you show client names and numbers?

Our client work is covered by mutual NDAs, so we describe it without names. The scan numbers on this page come from businesses we looked at as possible clients.
