What we found on real carpet cleaning profiles

A carpet cleaning company in central Mississippi had its listing placed by Google in Kentucky, about 400 miles away. It reached the top 3 at none of 49 points.
A carpet cleaning company in North County San Diego had its listing pinned about 20 miles from its shop, with water damage restoration as its primary category. It was not found in several of its target cities.
A carpet cleaning company in Wichita with more than 230 reviews at 5.0 did not reach the top 20 anywhere from downtown north.
A carpet cleaning company in North Carolina with more than 250 reviews at 5.0 was out of the top 20 in three nearby towns it serves.

The problems we see most

  • A primary category that does not match the main service. For carpet cleaners we often see water damage restoration filed as the main category.
  • A pin in the wrong place, or a service area that does not match where the trucks go
  • Listings that were never claimed, or duplicate listings splitting the reviews
  • Empty services lists and descriptions that do not name the real towns
  • Lots of reviews on a profile whose setup is wrong, so the reviews cannot carry it

What we fix first

  1. We run a 49 point scan of the service area before we change anything.
  2. We check the primary category, services and description against the carpet cleaners that win the map, and fix them after the owner approves.
  3. We check the pin or service area, so the profile ranks from the right place.
  4. We draft replies to every new review and publish one post a week with up to three photos, approved by the owner.
  5. We rescan the same 49 points every month, so the owner sees what moved.

How we measured

Each scan is a 7 by 7 grid of 49 points across the business's service area, searching its main keyword. A point counts as a win when the business is in the top 3 map results there. These are businesses we looked at as possible clients between September 8 and October 30, 2026, not a random sample. Client work is described without names because of mutual NDAs.

Common questions

Why do carpet cleaners with lots of reviews miss the Google map?

Reviews help, but Google also weighs how well the profile matches the search and how close the business is to the searcher. A wrong category, a misplaced pin or an empty services list can keep a well reviewed profile out of the top 3.

What is the most common Google Maps problem for carpet cleaners?

In our scans it is the setup: water damage restoration filed as the main category, a pin or service area that does not match the work, and listings that were never claimed.

How do you scan a profile?

We search the business's main keyword from 49 points spread across its service area and record where it shows up at each point. Green means top 3, red means not. We rescan the same points every month for clients.

Can you show client names and numbers?

Our client work is covered by mutual NDAs, so we describe it without names. The scan numbers on this page come from businesses we looked at as possible clients.
