What we found on real appliance repair profiles

An appliance repair and HVAC company in Utah had more than 250 reviews at 5.0 but ranked only 10th at its own address. We traced it to a shared coworking office address, and with the owner's approval switched the listing to a service area business, removed that address, and set 20 towns across its core market.
For the same company we wrote a new description, added refrigerator and freezer repair plus heating and cooling services, and removed a service it does not offer. We also advised against opening a second listing for the same business, since that risks a suspension of the main listing.
On that Utah company's first scan, it held 0% of the top spots for appliance repair while a competitor with no reviews at all held 14.3% of the map.
An appliance repair company in Indiana held 0% of the top spots across 49 points, while a competitor with 2 reviews held 24.5% of the map.
A commercial refrigeration repair company in Colorado showed up at only 2 of 49 points, and a second, empty listing under the same name was sitting on the map.

The problems we see most

  • A primary category that does not match the main service.
  • A pin in the wrong place, or a service area that does not match where the trucks go
  • Listings that were never claimed, or duplicate listings splitting the reviews
  • Empty services lists and descriptions that do not name the real towns
  • Lots of reviews on a profile whose setup is wrong, so the reviews cannot carry it

What we fix first

  1. We run a 49 point scan of the service area before we change anything.
  2. We check the primary category, services and description against the appliance repair companies that win the map, and fix them after the owner approves.
  3. We check the pin or service area, so the profile ranks from the right place.
  4. We draft replies to every new review and publish one post a week with up to three photos, approved by the owner.
  5. We rescan the same 49 points every month, so the owner sees what moved.

How we measured

Each scan is a 7 by 7 grid of 49 points across the business's service area, searching its main keyword. A point counts as a win when the business is in the top 3 map results there. These are businesses we looked at as possible clients between September 8 and October 30, 2026, not a random sample. Client work is described without names because of mutual NDAs.

Common questions

Why do appliance repair companies with lots of reviews miss the Google map?

Reviews help, but Google also weighs how well the profile matches the search and how close the business is to the searcher. A wrong category, a misplaced pin or an empty services list can keep a well reviewed profile out of the top 3.

What is the most common Google Maps problem for appliance repair companies?

In our scans it is the setup: a primary category that does not match the main service, a pin or service area that does not match the work, and listings that were never claimed.

How do you scan a profile?

We search the business's main keyword from 49 points spread across its service area and record where it shows up at each point. Green means top 3, red means not. We rescan the same points every month for clients.

Can you show client names and numbers?

Our client work is covered by mutual NDAs, so we describe it without names. The scan numbers on this page come from businesses we looked at as possible clients.
